Outstanding Accomplishments Today, A Blueprint for Tomorrow

On behalf of Allegheny County, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Allegheny County Economic Development (ACED) website.

Twenty-five years ago, Allegheny County’s economy was based largely on its steel industry and when the industry struggled, so did Allegheny County. We learned that lesson well and so have diversified and embraced new businesses and industry. It’s one of the reasons that this area weathered the downturn in the economy so well. By the end of the first quarter of 2012, our region will have recovered all of the jobs that were lost during the recession. We are on the move.

Pittsburgh’s economy of today still claims a large steel industry with giants like the United States Steel Corporation and Allegheny Ludlum located in the county. Today’s economy is also based on health care, research, hospitality, tourism, manufacturing, high tech, education, finance, construction and business services.

Helping new and existing businesses grow and prosper is one of the ACED objectives that has advanced Allegheny County. As we continue to expand, the partnership and cooperation that are inherent in our county will continue to fuel the region and the businesses that are brought to this area. Through the ACED initiatives of business development, development, and special projects and financing, we have been able to create more jobs, revitalize communities, and refurbish numerous business sites.

I am honored to be the County Executive for Allegheny County and am proud of the economic accomplishments this region has achieved. As we look toward the future, I am certain that we will continue to grow and further develop. ACED provides our business community with a strong foundation and looks forward to the opportunity to work with you to lead the way into tomorrow.
